Since launching his own practice, Long & Associates, in September of 2006, Ryan has become a trusted advisor to technology, media, and design innovators in both California and New York. His expertise in intellectual property, litigation, and related corporate matters has helped clients such as best new iTunes app Kanvas, LA/NY digital marketing company Situation Interactive, and award winning fashion designer Mr. Richard Chai, market their creations; solve complex litigation issues; and negotiate tighter equity, operating, and licensing agreements. Recently, Ryan was named a fellow of Stanford Law School's Center for Internet and Society. His disarming nature and fierce competitiveness bring comfort to clients and co-workers alike. Before launching his practice, Ryan was an attorney with the New York office of Milberg L.L.P., among others, where he litigated high-stakes antitrust, patent abuse, and consumer class action lawsuits.
Eric is passionate about the practice of law - particularly courtroom advocacy. He represents tenants in disputes with landlords and individuals who have been injured. He has defended tenants in unlawful detainer (eviction) proceedings, and pursued claims against landlords arising out of illegal evictions from rent-controlled apartments, tenant harassment, defective conditions and repair issues, rodent and other pest infestations, and floods. He also represents pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers who have been injured due to another's fault; and commercial clients in business disputes.
After two and a half years as an intellectual property litigation attorney in the San Francisco office of the international law firm Reed Smith LLP, Eric left to establish his own solo practice, Toscano Law, in 2012; a law partnership, Toscano Kellogg & Van Aken LLP, in 2014; and Toscano Law Group in 2016.
When he's not advocating on his clients' behalf, Eric also enjoys giving back to the legal community through his involvement with the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF). In 2014, BASF named Eric a 2014 Barrister of the Year for his "constant support and enthusiasm for the club," adding that "[h]e continues to mentor and assist new attorneys looking to start their own firm." He remains involved in BASF's Solo/Small Firm Section. He also serves as a director of the Eviction Defense Collaborative, a San Francisco nonprofit that helps low income tenants fight unlawful detainer (eviction) lawsuits.
When he is not working on behalf of his clients, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife Stephanie and young son Henry. He stays active by training for and running marathons and half marathons (albeit with less regularity than before he became a parent).
